Reds May Have Interest In Free Agent Ross
The Cincinnati Reds may have interest in free agent outfielder Cody Ross (hero of the 2010 World Series for the Giants.) Ross would most likely be targeted for left field. Ross has power, but also strikes out a ton, like the other two Reds outfielders Jay Bruce & Drew Stubbs.
Reds Seeking To Acquire Cubs Lefty Sean Marshall
In a move to bolster their bullpen, the Cincinnati Reds are reportedly interested in trading for Cubs left handed bullpen specialist Sean Marshall. In return the Reds would send lefty starter Travis Wood and two minor league players to the Cubs.

Chicago Bulls Interested In Richard Hamilton Of Pistons
The Chicago Bulls appear to be interested in signing Guard Richard Hamilton, who was waived by the Detroit Pistons.
Cubs Claim SS Jeff Bianchi From Royals
The Chicago Cubs have acquired SS prospect Jeff Bianchi from the Kansas City Royals. Bianchi was once a highly rated Royals prospect, who hit .400 twice in the low minors, though his career has been derailed of late by injuries. This could be a sleeper move for Jed Hoyer and Theo Epstein.
Cubs Acquire Ian Stewart & Casey Weathers From Rockies for Tyler Colvin
In a move that was slightly under the radar, the Chicago Cubs acquired two former #1 draft picks of the Colorado Rockies, third baseman Ian Stewart (2003 #1 pick) and RHP Casey Weathers (2007 #1 pick) for Cubs #1 pick of the 2006 draft OF Tyler Colvin & high regarded IF prospect DJ LaMahieu (a #2 pick by the Cubs in 2009.) Stewart struggled mightily in 2011, while Weathers is still coming back from Tommy John surgery and pitched in the Arizona Fall League of late. On the flip side, after a promising rookie year, Tyler Colvin had a rough 2011, and struggled to hit over .200. LaMahieu spent time with the Cubs in 2011, and looked good in brief duty. Ian Stewart was once considered a look to be the Rockies third baseman of the future, but has struggled. Weathers is a power reliever that has considerable upside.

New York Mets Wise To Pass On Jose Reyes
Back in 2003 I had the chance to see Jose Reyes at least 15 times, while he was with the AA Binghamton Mets. There was little doubt even then, that one day Reyes would be an electrifying major league player. Reyes' career with the New York Mets had many moments of brilliance. However, there were just as many moments where Reyes was unavailable to injury or pouting. Of course, Reyes had a career year in 2011 (his walk year), that resulted in Reyes winning a batting title (though he took himself out the lineup to assure the batting crown over Milwaukee's Ryan Braun.) Reyes was hurt again in 2011, and missed significant time. In truth the Mets should have dealt Reyes before he was hurt. The Mets are clearly in a rebuilding mode, whether they admit it or not. Passing on Reyes when he entered free agency was a sound baseball decision by Mets GM Sandy Alderson. Reyes will likely be hurt again in 2012, and most likely will never fulfill his new contract with the Marlins. The Mets can now get on with rebuilding (something they say you can't do in New York!) Get used to it New York, the Mets are rebuilding!

Congratulations To Cubs Ron Santo For Making The Baseball Hall Of Fame
Congratulations to late Chicago Cubs third basemen Ron Santo for finally making the MLB Hall Of Fame. It is a crime that he was not elected years ago. His numbers were better than Orioles Hall Of Famer Brooks Robinson in almost every area. While not quite the glove as Robinson, Santo won NL Gold Gloves several times. It's a black eye to baseball writers for not electing him to the hall while he was still here to enjoy it. Ron passed away in December of 2010. Santo's lifetime numbers were .277 BA 342 HR 1331 RBI 2254 H 5 Gold Gloves, 9 All Star appearances!

The Chicago Bears (7-4) will try to rebound from last week's loss at Oakland, when they face the Kansas City Chiefs (4-7) at Soldier Field in Chicago, this afternoon at 1PM EST. The Caleb Hanie Era Is Upon Us
For the Chicago Bears the Caleb Hanie era is at hand. Hanie has been erratic thus far in the Bears game today in Oakland. Hanie has been picked off three times, the last one was right before the half as the Bears were driving in the Oakland red zone. On the plus side Hanie has thrown a TD Pass to Johnny Knox. Bears trail at the half 12-7.

Chicago Cubs Top 10 Prospects 2012
Chicago Cubs Top 10 Prospects For 2012

Auburn-Alabama Game
I just watched a documentary on the Auburn-Alabama rivalry in college football. The whole thing was pretty freaky, death threats against coaches, sicko fans poisoning trees. I think those cats take college football a little too seriously!

Album Of The Day! Doll By Doll-Gypsy Blood (1979)
Doll by Doll were a fabulous group from Scotland, who emerged from the UK post-punk scene. Their 1979 debut album "Remember" drew critical raves in their native UK. Even better was the group's second album "Gypsy Blood" (Automatic 1979.) This was a world class set, that featured the group's incredible lead singer Jackie Leven (truly one of rock music's greatest ever singers.) The material was also stellar, being a mixture of eerie ballads, and slightly psychedelic pop songs. Most definitely in the Teardrop Explodes/Scott Walker area. Key tracks include: Highland Rain, The Human Face, Hell Games, Forbidden Worlds and Stripshow. The vinyl LP copy was quite scarce, but it has recently seen a CD release, so you have no excuses. Fans of John Cale, The Triffids, Nick Cave and the Tindersticks will eat Gypsy Blood for dinner. Rating 10/10

Boston's Ellsbury Should Be AL MVP!
While I'm certainly not slighting the great year Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander had, I still think Boston's Jacoby Ellsbury should have been the MVP. Ellsbury had a Ricky Henderson type year, domination the game in every facet!

Coming December 10 New 45 by John Fallon of The Steppes
I am pleased to announce the release of the debut solo by John Fallon (former singer-guitarist with The Steppes.) Available as a 7" 45 with PS, it couples "Picture Yourself Today" & "Theme For Steve McQueen" on my own St. Albans label. Check back for ordering info!
Urge Overkill-Rock & Roll Submarine (2011)
The mighty Urge return from the dead with a fabulous new record, that is better than one could have hoped for. It's their first since 1995's great but overlooked "Exit The Dragon," "Rock & Roll Submarine" kicks face right out of the gate with "Mason/Dixon", and the juice just keeps flowing after that. "Effigy" is another firecracker, as is "End Of Story" (all three King Roeser numbers.) National Kato also supplies the cool "Thought Balloon" and "She's My Ride." There really isn't a bum track to be found. Let's hope it sells, so they have the bread to give us another album. Buy this thing already, UO are too good to lose again!
Record Of The Week
This week 11-21-11 Belmont Record Shop's record of the week is Tony Jackson & The Vibrations-You Beat Me To The Punch (Pye 45 1964) This is a superb 45 by the ex-Searchers bassist Tony Jackson and his new group The Vibrations. It's a Smokey Robinson song given the UK beat makeover. FANTASTIC!
